With so many children's books in the marketplace, finding ones that truly stand out as being extra SPECIAL is as hard as finding a needle in a haystack. With Mesmerised, you are lucky enough to have found one such needle!
Mesmerised is the brainchild of extremely talented Australian graphic designer Katey Love. Inspired by her first daughter's early love of black and white imagery, Katey decided to produce an Australian-designed book of graphics specifically for babies under the the Books For Newborns label.
So Why Is Mesmerised So Special?
There is simply so much to LOVE about this book that it is worth mentioning at least some of the reasons why we are thrilled to be able to introduce it to you:
Designed Specifically for Newborns:
We all know that many bookshop shelves are overflowing with titles for young children. Whilst a significant percentage of books for littlies are also marketed as being suitable for newborns their 'suitability' seems to be based more on either the fact that their size is appropriate for little hands or that they are made from fabric/hard cardboard and thus are not easily damaged. What about the actual content of the pages themselves?....
It may seem obvious that books marketed to newborns should not only be suitable for little hands and durable but also contain stimulating, age appropriate content but unfortunately, believe it or not, this seems to be a novel approach. Thank goodness for the minds at Books For Newborns! The nature AND content of this remarkable book has been specifically tailored to cater for babies between the ages of 0-6months.
Visual rather than simple Tactile Stimulation:
Many of the books in the marketplace that are geared towards newborns are based on pure tactile stimulation. We are all familiar with books targeted at our youngest bookworms containing pages with different textures or fabric pages that create sounds such as crinkling when scrunched by little fingers. Whilst there is obviously a valuable place in the market for such products, they don't really cater for those really tiny littlies who still have trouble grasping and holding items for a prolonged period of time. With Mesmerised what attracts and holds a littlie's attention and keeps them stimulated is visually based thus catering for a child's needs and abilities from Day 1 right up to 6 months old.
Black & White as Opposed to Colour:
Yippee... Finally someone has taken note of strong research results when it comes to designing a book for newborns! Research has clearly shown that newborn babies respond and are attracted better to high-contrast patterns than to colour or brightness alone, making black and white options the obvious choice. So why do we as adults constantly buy products for our littlies that are brightly coloured? Companies like Wimmer-Ferguson (the original innovator of black and white developmental baby toys) have won numerous awards for their play products so why has it taken so long to incorporate their success and the relevant research findings on this topic into the production of a book? Thankfully, with Mesmerised (the only black and white book of its kind we know of in the marketplace today) the wait is finally over! Specifically made to stimulate early visual activity, it just goes to show that a book is as good as the research that goes into its development.
Appealing Graphics:
The patterns/images found within the pages of this extraordinary book have been designed to further enhance a child's interest and thus are very successful in capturing and maintaining a baby's attention. Furthermore, with 18 pages there are plenty of different images to choose from to keep your littlie amused (unlike the majority of board books for youngsters that only have a handful of pages).
An Australian Product:
So many of the books that we as adults introduce to our children are the product of minds overseas. We just love the fact that this beauty was designed by a fantastic Aussie mother!
Mesmerising:
This book is certainly aptly named as it will indeed keep your little one 'mesmerised'! Great to help distract bubs with often troublesome 'tummy times' or to help babies exercise seldom used muscles. For example, if your little one favours one side of the head, simply prop Mesmerised open on the non-favoured side and the attraction of the black and white images will keep your baby engaged for long enough that they will exercise the muscles on that side.
If you want a product that is going to simply amuse a newborn then there are plenty of toys in the marketplace... However, if you want a product that is truly going to stimulate them, keep them entertained or mesmerised (pardon the pun) for a substantial period of time then look no further than this gorgeous book.
Great present choice for any new bundle of joy! As a new baby gift for a friend or relative...or as a gift for your own new baby, this is one of the best choices available in the marketplace!
